SHADES OF ISSHINRYU

The Kyan Gateway 1956

This was the only entrance to the home/dojo of the Shimabukuro family circa 1956.
The right pillar reads "Isshinryu karate dojo, Shihan Shimabuku Tatsuo".
The left pillar reads "Unsei Handan Shinkodo", this can be translated as "Fortunes told, hall of godly light".
Shinko is a Buddhist term and refers to the light that shines as a result of spiritual powers.
